OVERVIEW

Are you up for an adventure? We are travelling to Israel and Jordan for an epic biblical adventure in January 2024.
We will (loosely) follow in the footstep of Jesus with some Old Testament crossovers along the way. The adventure is in travelling with like minded people (we welcome solo travellers, couples and groups of friends) and doing lots of walks, hikes and fun stuff as well as key Biblical sites.

To keep the costs down we are offering triple share rooms and staying in hotels that are located close to lots of cafe, shops and interesting places to hang at night. January is winter so it’s a great time to be travelling and of course it’s uni break & school holidays.

Adam Ch’ng is the Senior Pastor of Cross & Crown, a cross-cultural church in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
He previously worked as a lawyer and political adviser before studying theology at Ridley College.
Adam serves on the FIEC (Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches) Executive and The Gospel Coalition Australia Victoria Committees, and he has a heart to see people from every nation reached with the gospel.

This morning we checkout of our Tel Aviv hotel and start our day with a visit to Caesarea Maritima on the Mediterranean Sea. The showcase Roman port built by Herod the Great, figured centrally in both Jewish and Christian history. It will be chilly, but if you’re game you can swim the sea! Caesarea was the home of the four daughters of Philip (Acts 21:8-9).
Continue to Sepphoris, the ancient capital of Galilee, the traditional birthplace of Mary; Joanna, the wife of Cuza, might have lived here. Visit the restored theatre, the “Mona Lisa of Galilee” mosaic, the Nile House, the Cardo and the sixth-century synagogue that tells a story of redemption and reveals an unusual representation of Sarah.
We then take a short drive to Nazareth – most of the monuments in Nazareth, the town where Jesus grew up, are devoted to Mary and this is where the Annunciation (Luke 1:26-38) took place. Visit the Nazareth Village for lunch and then learn about what daily life was like in Jesus’ day. On our way to Tiberias we will visit Sindyanna of Galilee where Jewish & Arab women work together producing Fair Trade products.
Check in to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

Hotel: Ron Beach Hotel, Tiberias

Stay the day with a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. During our time on the lake we will stop and ponder with a time of prayer, reflection & worship.
At Ginosar we will visit the Jesus boat museum that displays a recently excavated 1st century fishing boat. Continue to Tabgha, where the miracle of the feeding of the 5,000 is said to have occurred. We then visit the Mount of Beatitudes where Jesus delivered the sermon on the Mount for a time of prayer & praise in the stunning grounds and church.
We will have a traditional St Peter’s Fish lunch at a local restaurant (don’t worry if you don’t eat fish, there’s always an alternative). We then visit the ancient town of Capernaum where Jesus preached in the synagogue and visited the home of Simon Peter.
We will also visit Magdala, the home town of Mary Magdalene and spend some time reflecting on the women we have discovered so far. Enjoy a stunning view, with drinks & sunset over the Sea of Galilee from Mt Arbel before returning to the hotel.

Today we will visit Gamla, considered the Masada of the North. The ruins here include a 1st century synagogue that Jesus would have surely visited, as well as an olive press. The town was perched high on a hill relatively protected but the Romans still managed to take the city. It’s an epic hike to the site and an even more epic one to the Precipice.
As we farewell the Galilee we stop at Beit Shean (Scythopolis), an impressive Greco-Roman Old Testament city and continue to Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus.
Meet your homestay family and enjoy an evening with a Palestinian Christian family. Be sure to share photos of family & life at home, and a small gift from Australia for your host family.

Today we farewell our families and start the day with a visit to the Shepherd’s Fields. The church here has amazing acoustics, so a great spot to stop and sing. We then spend time with local Christian groups to learn about their work in local communities providing emergency relief, community development, and education for Palestinian communities. Travel to the Bethlehem Bible College for a lecture on the Christian response to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and a light lunch at the bible college. Continue to the Church of the Nativity and afterwards shop for olivewood souvenirs. We then travel to Jerusalem and check in to our hotel.
At 4pm Selah has a fun, surprise activity for you - meet in the lobby and wear comfy clothes!
The hotel is located in a central part of town where you can explore after dinner with lots of cafes, bars, pool halls and fun stuff to do right outside your door. Tonight we visit the home of a local Jewish family and share in the Shabbat (means Sabbath) meal together. A real highlight of the trip.
