INFORMATION SESSIONS
OVERVIEW
Possibly the most epic and exciting tour that Selah has ever done! Odyssey means a long and eventful or adventurous journey or experience.
An opportunity to visit the Holy Lands of Israel & Palestine before embarking on a luxury cruise from Israel to Biblical sites in Greece and Turkey. This Selah experience ticks so many boxes!
Escorted by Mike & Sarah Raiter who love Jesus and the Word, and will facilitate intellectual & creative experiences as you travel the lands of the Bible.
The joy of cruising – not having to check in and check out of hotels will make this trip relaxing and fun. We have included important shore excursions to Biblical sites & allowed you free time in the other ports to relax and do as you please.
The Oceania Vista is a small luxury ship built in 2023 that holds a maximum of 1200 people with 800 staff. In Israel we will stay in well located comfortable 5 star hotels.
This is truly the trip of a lifetime! We only have a limited number of cabins/places so please book early to avoid disappointment.
Mike Raiter is the Director of the Centre for Biblical Preaching. He’s based in Melbourne but travels across Australia and around the world preaching and training people to preach. He worked for 11 years as a missionary in Pakistan. He’s spent much of his life teaching in theological colleges in Australia and Asia. He’s the author of over 40 books and articles including the 2004 Australian Christian Book of the Year, Stirrings of the Soul. When he’s not speaking somewhere, Mike loves going for city walks with Sarah, wrapping his mind around cryptic crosswords, and devouring crime novels.
Sarah Raiter is a nester and a traveller from way back. Born of American parents, raised in Pakistan and married to an Aussie Pom, she’s a cultural hot pot: a lover of home and of airports; of tasting plates and mountains; of oil painting, word painting and coffee; of ambient lights and lots of shoes at the door. It’s 40 years since she married a preacher in shining armour and, with a degree in Home Science/Fine Art took up high school teaching. It couldn’t be soon enough that this was happily replaced with mothering four kids, mentoring and creating. You’ll now find her empty nesting at St James Old Cathedral where Mike and she live and worship. See some of Sarah’s artwork and reflections at https://containingcolor.wordpress.com

We will disembark as a private group at 8:00am from the Cruise Terminal of the port of Thessaloniki. Meet with our local English-speaking licensed Biblical focused tour guide and depart by private air conditioned motor-coach to visit Philippi travelling along the Egnatian Way (Via Egnatia) which Paul did on foot.
On our way to Philippi we stop to see the Lion statue of Amphipolis (brief stop for photos). Afterwards we continue to Philippi, (Acts 16:12-40; 20:6) the site where the apostle Paul preached his evangelistic sermon to women who had gathered at the river. You will visit the river where Paul baptised Lydia, a purple fabric merchant, who became the first Christian woman to be baptised on European soil (Acts 16:14, 15, 40).
You will see the crypt, dating from the Roman period, which according to church tradition may have been the place where Paul was flogged and imprisoned. Also at Philippi you will see, the ancient Roman forum built during the time of Augustus and mentioned in the Book of Acts as the place where Paul was publicly punished after he healed the demon-possessed girl (Acts 16:19). You will see the Basilicas and the Greek Theatre (4th century BC), which was converted into an arena by the Romans and used during the persecutions of the early days of the church. Paul’s letter to the Philippians was addressed to the local Christians 14 years after his first visit there.
Of all the churches Paul founded, probably none was as near and dear to him as the church at Philippi (Acts 16:9-33). Philippi was named after Philip II, king of Macedonia father of Alexander the Great. The Roman road Via Egnatia crossed this city and ran from Rome to Byzantium. Return to the port of Thessaloniki to re-embark on our cruise-ship and sail for Mykonos at 6:00 p.m.
